Henry Dunbar began making bow ties and earrings out of old bicycle inner tubes in 2013 when he was the Executive Director of Phoenix Bikes. He was attending the Youth Bike Summit in New York with some of the youth from the program, and attended a session on making jewelry from bike parts, and he’s never stopped doing it. Troubled by all the materials that get thrown away in the regular course of business of a bike repair place, he began looking for ways to reuse the chains, tubes, tires, cables, and myriad other items that had reached their end-of-life phase on bicycles.

Soon he came up with a 100% recycled belt made from tires, chains, spokes and bolts from a bike, and began adding bracelets and necklaces. Seasonal snowmen were added to the mix in 2021, and a Tree of Life from a bike wheel rim and electrical wire was added in 2022.

He launched Cycle Killer Accessories in 2023 after many friends expressed interest in buying the things he made, and encouraged him to keep experimenting. He completed his latest piece, a Yin and Yang symbol from cable housing inside a bike wheel, over about 9 months as he slowly retrieved the pieces from the trash bins at Phoenix Bikes.
